Transcription: Radar was invented during World War II to detect the approach of enemy aircraft or ships. Further military development has led to its application in target lock-on devices at sea and in the air. However, radar is now very widely used in civilian navigation and aviation and in many countries radar safety systems are even fitted to railway locomotives.
